LIZ FOR STUDENT GOVERNMENT PRESIDENT

votelizbanner.jpg

Celebration School is about to hold the first annual Student Government Elections.  Student Government officers are voted in by the entire school, not just their class, and have to represent the school as a whole.  It is a big task, with loads of responsibilities, but in the end, it is all worth it!

My name is Liz Wright, and I am running for Student Government President along side Noreen Ali, who is running for Student Government Vice President.

Why Vote for Liz?

Experience

I have been involved in Student Government for two years. Last year, I was Sophomore Class president, and this year I am Student Government Vice President.

Other related experience: Yearbook Editor, VP of Psychology Club

Ability

Student Government isn't just an organization that looks good on a college application. The responsibility goes far deeper. Each position that is held is responsible for various aspects, of which entail the success of the entire organization. It is important that everyone works together and is motivated to getting even the most improbable tasks done. I feel I have proven my ability to do so through the prior experiences I have had with this association.

Examples

In Celebration High School last year, the sophomore class was responsible for throwing the annual Winter Formal Dance, sometime after Winter Break. We had barely any money starting off, and it seemed to be a far stretch to raise enough money to throw the dance at first. However, with the help of my fellow class officers and others in the Student Government, we threw spaghetti dinners, had multiple booths at a founders day picnic (3 to be exact), and involved ourselves in a variety of other events to earn as much money as possible. Thankfully, we came out on top, raising more than enough money for the dance. Despite the amount we earned, I knew we couldn't spend it all, we needed to make sure, that even if we didn't break even for the dance, that we had a substantial amount of money in our account for a starting point for the following year. We were budget conscious, and wound up making more than twice the amount of money spent on the dance back! I had a great team, people who were willing to work together, be smart, and do whatever needed to be done to not only finish the job, but finish it well.

As for this year, as we all know, Celebration High School, Poinciana High School, Osceola High School, and many other high schools and middle schools in Osceola county merged together to form a more integrated and diverse school, which we know as the new Celebration High School. This was a completely new school, with new goals and aspirations, new people. It wouldn't be right to regurgitate the goals of the old Celebration High School into the new one. Thankfully, the former Student Council of Celebration was able to meet with the Student Council of Poinciana before the end of the school year last year to discuss goals and ideas for the new high school. Over the summer I then met with Jessie Barker (Student Government President this year) to write a constitution for the new S.G.A. (Student Government Association). We worked through the Ideas and interests of not only our former school, and ourselves but of the other schools and students which would be integrated with us. We parlayed these goals into this school year, and have spent most of the year regrouping and organizing to prepare ourselves for a heavy load next year. I feel that I have helped to pave the way for a successful year for Celebration next year, and hope that I get the chance to prove myself to everyone.

Approachable

I think being a part of Student Government has a lot to do with speaking out and having a say in what happens in our school; however, it has a lot more to do with listening to the concerns of the student body. If everyone just spoke their mind and didn't acknowledge the concerns and thoughts of the rest of the student body, nothing would get done. I feel that I have become a good listener throughout these past two years, and that I would be able to voice the concerns of the student body effectively and efficiently for next year. I have never turned any one away when they have had an idea, nor have I ever disregarded some else's opinion on what they think is needed to be done. I think everyone has something to offer and bring to the table when it comes to our school, and everyone deserves to be heard, whether they are a Freshman or a Senior, everyone has an equal voice.

Why Vote For Noreen?

Experience

Noreen has experience in a variety of positions which prove her ability to not only be a leader, but to actively interact with her student body. She shares the same position as I do in regards to the goals for next years SGA, and would be a strong contender to work side-by-side with.
